Deepak Natarajan
Lecturer
Biography
During his 35-year career in Silicon Valley and Asia, Deepak established a strong track record of success and accomplishment as a marketing and sales executive in large organizations, startups, and in venture capital. During the first half of his career at pioneering technology companies including Intel, Silicon Graphics, Sun Microsystems, and Autodesk, he led several successful entrepreneurial efforts that established these companies as leaders in new sectors and geographies. These experiences prepared Deepak for the startup world, where he led marketing and business development at Seeker Software and Roamware, leaders in enterprise software and wireless respectively. In 2000, Deepak parlayed his experience building high-growth businesses to a career in venture capital at Redwood Ventures and Storm Ventures in Silicon Valley. In 2008, Deepak undertook one more entrepreneurial challenge and moved to Singapore to establish Intel Capital's operations - over an 8-year period, Deepak served on the boards of 10 companies in Singapore, Malaysia, Vietnam, and NZ, and India and helped the founders and executives build these companies.
During the past decade in his role as an investor and board member, Deepak found great professional and personal satisfaction from coaching and helping entrepreneurs and executives achieve their leadership potential so, since leaving Intel in May 2016, he has been actively involved in a variety of activities at INSEAD - EIR, co-teacher/role-player in the Corporate Entrepreneurship and YFCD classes, and as a judge at the Insead Venture competition, New Business Ventures, and in the Startup bootcamps. Through his involvement in these activities, Deepak has coached and mentored several students and helped them develop as entrepreneurs and corporate leaders post INSEAD. He is particularly effective in inspiring people to think out-of-the-box, and providing them with decision frameworks that will help them find the paths that will best fulfil their professional and personal goals.
Deepak holds an MBA and a Masters in Mechanical Engineering from Berkeley, and a Bachelors in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Washington. Based in Singapore, he enjoys staying (reasonably) fit, loves dining out, and is a movie buff.
