Michael Prahl

Biography

Michael Prahl is a Lecturer at INSEAD.

An INSEAD alumnus, Michael served as the first Executive Director of the school’s PE Centre (GPEI) from 2010 to 2015. During his tenure, Michael oversaw the expansion of the Centre's research and outreach activities and drove specific research projects related to co-investments, risk & return in emerging markets PE and family offices. He stays connected to the Centre as a Distinguished Fellow of GPEI with a focus on LBOs and Asian Private Equity.

Michael Prahl is a partner and co-founder of Asia-IO Advisors, a Hong Kong based private equity firm helping large corporate and institutional investors implement customized Asia-nexus direct investment programs. Asia-IO has developed a specialty in cross-border industrial technology private equity investing, with a number of consummated control/joint-control transactions in Asia, North America and Europe.

Michael started his investing career in venture capital during the tail end of the dotcom boom, moving into late stage investing shortly after. He spent several years with Apax Partners, a global private equity firm, working on a number of high profile deals in Europe and the US including regular buyouts, public to privates, PIPE's, minority investments and privatisations. He subsequently moved to Asia to help establish the firm’s Asian operations.

He is a co-author of the recently published 'Mastering Private Equity – Transformation via Venture Capital, Minority Investments & Buyouts' as well the corresponding INSEAD case book 'Private Equity in Action – Case Studies from Developed & Emerging Markets'.
