Biography

Juan Ma is an Adjunct Professor of Strategy at INSEAD.

Professor Ma earned a Doctor in Business Administration degree from Harvard Business School, receiving the Wyss Award for outstanding doctoral dissertation in business administration, as well as the Weiss Family Program Fund for outstanding research in development economics. Professor Ma’s research interests lie in business strategy, innovation, as well as global competitiveness. Her research work has been published in reputed academic journals and cited by media outlets including the Financial Times and Forbes.

Professor Ma joined INSEAD in 2016 as a tenure-tracked faculty member. At Harvard Business School and INSEAD, she has taught subjects related to globalization and innovation in the MBA, MIM, and executive education programs.

In 2018 Professor Ma co-founded Pureland Global Venture, a Singapore-based venture capital firm specialized in early-stage investments in medical technologies. Professor Ma also serves as an advisor and board member to startups and publicly traded companies across the world, as well as governments and non-profit organisations including Industry Canada and the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade (DFAIT) Canada.

Professor Ma was born in Nanjing, China, and speaks English, Mandarin, and Cantonese. She holds a bachelor degree in Business Economics from the University of Toronto, and in 2011, received the Governor General’s Silver Medal.
