Xabier Barriola

Biography

Xabier is a postdoctoral research fellow at INSEAD's Technology and Operations Management Area. He works with the Sustainable Operations Initiative and the Humanitarian Research Group. Prior to this, he received a Ph.D. in Management from IESE Business School, and he spent a year as a postdoctoral researcher at Aalto University.

His research is focused on studying sustainability and its connection with retail operations, assortment planning, new product development, and disaster operations. He has studied the impact of competition on new product launches, the optimal way in which consumers build an assortment of durable goods, and how retailers respond to natural disasters.

Prior to his academic career, he worked for a period of four years as an environmental consultant based in Panama City, Panama. During that period, he had the opportunity to advise a total of 190 companies that were located in Panama, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Colombia, Peru, and Mexico. His main objective was to assess their operations in order to help them comply with local and international regulations.
